30 Magazine Submissions in 30 Days June Day 16 30Submissions30Days

Here is the post that started it all! I suggest you go check it out first before you take on the challenge. You can start the challenge at any time and each days post leads to the next day! Here is yesterdays post, #15.

Here is the piece I am sending out for today. Its also a reprint like Ive been sending and is an evergreen piece. Instead of sending my reprints once and then never again, I think sending them annually is smarter. Editors change, publications come and go, opinions and magazine space change.

I suggest you get a good system down that works for you. I use Excel and in one tab have all the publications and what they have used of mine (so Im not sending a magazine something theyve already used and wasting their time), in another tab I have it arranged by article so I can see when each was published and how it did, another tab for financial stuff like invoice numbers and amounts, and another tab for my submissions plan.

So here is my offering to the magazine gods today, and Ill keep you updated on how it fares. Its already been used three times and I received $85 for it then did nothing more with it!

#16 The Allowance Issue

And here is your #16 tip/step/help for the month:

Some magazines like a photo with an article if you can provide something of quality for free or a small fee. Otherwise, you could at least hit pixabay.com or some other site with free photos for something appropriate to match with your article.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. My book not only has all the markets you need with contact and pay information, but also embellishes on the tips Im going to be giving you this month to get you going. I recommend the print version (I make the same amount of money either way pretty much) because you are going to want to make notes, cross things out, highlight publications youve worked with, etc.

#25 8 Ways to Eat Organic on a Budget

And here is your #25 tip/step/help for the month:

Utilize social media! Follow magazines on Twitter and Facebook, share their posts. When you are published in a magazine, make sure to share the online piece all over your social media to drive traffic to the publication.

Here is the piece I am sending out for today, which is a Monday. Its also a reprint like Ive been sending and perfect for any pregnancy or baby issue or as an evergreen piece.

Its already been used 9 times and made $385 but I havent pitched it again as a reprint in years.

#8 Pregnancy Sleep Solutions

And here is your #8 tip/step/help for the month:

Streamline your process or you will be overwhelmed and give up. It took me hours to enter all the email addresses from my book into my email system but its been worth it because I can now send out any submission to over 200 publications in seconds.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. My book not only has all the markets you need with contact and pay information, but also embellishes on the tips Im going to be giving you this month to get you going. Here is the post that started it all! I suggest you go check it out first before you take on the challenge. You can start the challenge at any time and each days post leads to the next day! Here is yesterdays post, #6.

Here is the piece I am sending out for today, which is a Sunday. Its also a reprint like Ive been sending and perfect for a September or October issue with school starting, which means FUNDRAISERS! My kids have always been homeschooled but I am not stranger to a fundraiser!

#7 Fundraising Life Lessons Learned

And here is your #7 tip/step/help for the month:

Get organized. Please. Not being super organized and not updating my records has lost me money over the years. Now I have folders online that hold articles by month, topic and then evergreens. If I have nothing to offer for, say, July, and have sent all my summer reprints, I will whip out a few evergreens and send them again.

Here is yesterdays post, #16.

Here is the piece I am sending out for today. Its also a reprint like Ive been sending and is an evergreen piece about kid clutter.

Its already been used 16 times and I received $475 for it so why have I not been sending it to every new publication I find?! Well, that would be an organization issue on my end.

#17 Tame Kid Clutter

And here is your #17 tip/step/help for the month:

Make sure you set up a system for invoicing. If you dont stay on top of some magazines you will never get paid. They have a lot of writers they have to pay and sometimes you might get overlooked so fight for your money!

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. My book not only has all the markets you need with contact and pay information, but also embellishes on the tips Im going to be giving you this month to get you going. So here is my offering to the magazine gods today, and Ill keep you updated on how it fares. Its already been used 4 times and I received $90 for it from two magazines (sister pubs) that asked me to write it originally, and I made a total of $115 but I havent pitched it again as a reprint in years! Why would I sit on something that sold so well one year? ARGH!

#11 Making Housework a Family Affair

And here is your #11 tip/step/help for the month:

Add a note with your e-submission. I like to copy and italicize the first paragraph of my piece and then below that I write a blurb like, "Please let me know if you are able to use my piece. I would love to work with you!"

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. #20 How to Support a Family with a Baby in the NICU

And here is your #20 tip/step/help for the month:

Keep an idea file at all times! Write ideas on napkins, keep them in Evernote, on paper or in a document on your computer but always have ideas to pull from for those times you feel dry and dont know what to write about.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. #9 Teen Dating: How Young is Too Young?

And here is your #9 tip/step/help for the month:

Know your terminology. A query goes to national magazines and gives a teaser of what you will write. A submission is what you send to the regionals ... in full. Worried about someone stealing your work? Keep on top of it by Googling your name, setting up Google alerts and checking Issuu.com monthly and send out invoices when you find your work has been used.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. #15 Mompetition ... Dont Play Along

And here is your #15 tip/step/help for the month:

Dont forget about short little fillers that some magazines need. Little sidebar-type things with factoids are needed by many regional parenting magazines and larger!

#4 Grandparent Traditions

And here is your #4 tip/step/help for the month:

Get the research for your piece done. Some prefer to research, then get the bones down and get the quotes (see here for tips 1-3), so do things in whatever order you feel most comfortable and productive with.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. #24 Brace Yourself for Your Childs First Orthodontist Visit

And here is your #24 tip/step/help for the month:

Dont procrastinate! Okay, this is something I do all the time but Im telling you to stop! Get the stuff done that you dont want to do, leaving time for the things you enjoy and leaving room for new opportunities!

Vector Sales Earnings in June July and August 2012

Vector sales has been amazing all the way until the last 3 months. Shutterstock has the biggest drop in sales compared to the rest. Many big contributors have been reporting a loss of 30% to 50% at Shutterstock. Other agencies fluctuated, but are still consistent and bearable, except Dreamstime.

In the last 3 months, I had failed to reach a payout ($100) at Dreamstime. This never happened in the last 2 years. The sales at Dreamstime is very disappointing with a lot of subscription sales ($0.35) and hardly any on-demand sales.

Other agencies such as DepositPhotos, CanStockPhoto, GraphicRiver, 123rf are all doing fine with little fallback. I hope they rise further.

iStockPhoto maintains its usual trend although I did not upload much there. This shows that iStockPhoto is consistent and sustainable. The sales is hard to improve, though.

Just like iStockPhoto, Fotolia remains strong, but again, I do not see major improvement despite heavy upload. The Enhanced License purchase at Fotolia is getting rare and almost unseen these days.

I believe the biggest reason for drop in sales (especially in Shutterstock) are due to summer holiday, Euro Cup, and Olympics. Many have complain that Shutterstock screws up its search algorithm making it difficult for buyers to purchase. I do not believe this is true. Looking at the site analytic from compete.com, Shutterstock traffic is dropping dramatically.

Summer holiday is ending soon, and I hope the slowdown is over. We should be seeing major improvement from September and onward. However, if no improvement can be seen at Shutterstock, then we could have a big problem.

The big problem may caused by competition from sites such as DepositPhotos, Fotolia, and ThinkStock which are currently promoting their subscription model heavily.

#27 Home Renovation Sanity

Remember who your audience is. I submit the same articles to every publication in my book, but I also realize that some of the magazines will never publish my pieces on homeschooling or attachment parenting, and thats okay.

#21 Life After the NICU

And here is your #21 tip/step/help for the month:

Work during your best time of day. For me thats morning when I first wake up and the kids are sleeping. If I try to write or think an original thought after 9 p.m. its a total mess.

If you want to dust off your ideas and take the challenge with me sometime this summer, comment below and get my book here on Amazon as an ebook or as a print book. My book not only has all the markets you need with contact and pay information, but also embellishes on the tips Im going to be giving you this month to get you going. My Income and Sources for June 2013 Stop Whining Make Money!

Total income for June 2013 = $1,559.65

UPDATE: Here is March 2014s kick-ass income ... still going strong here! That post leads to all the other months! Keep at it!

Here were Aprils numbers, and then Mays numbers. Im really excited to be able to make this much from home while also homeschooling my kids. The money helps out so much with unexpected household expenses (root canals, leaky roofs, new brakes, broken car radiator, etc. that most people would have to put on a credit card or that would put them into bankruptcy eventually).

I am in the Stop Whining About Money and Do Something About It Club!

Disclaimers: For the record, I have no reason to lie to you about any of the income I’m reporting, and the most underhanded, nasty, smarmy thing I’m going to do is give you my referral links so I can make a whopping dime or so off of each person who signs up to do what I’m doing! The dollar amounts I show are what I actually RECEIVED in my hot little hand or PayPal account, not what I EARNED because things show up at different times and take different amounts of time to come around.

This all means: I STILL do not count my eggs before they are in my PayPal account. Now, lets get started:

1. Fiverr. I received $599 here in June. The majority of my income is from proofreading in the wee hours of the morning when my kids sleep, but I also have gigs for selling my ebooks cheap, writing blog posts, selling reprint articles and promoting things via my social media outlets. I outsourced some jobs this month, and the amount takes that into account.

2. Tenrr. $45.00. Tenrr rocks because you keep 100% of your earnings UP FRONT. However, its hard to get clients on this site.

3. Private proofing job. $20.00.

4. Bubblews. $257.64. Just click on the word Bubblews and you can sign up using my referral link. I think I get two shiny dimes to rub together if you do that, but it will change YOUR life!

5. Regional Parenting Magazine articles, new and reprint: $226

6. General blogging for North Texas Kids and other sites. $147

7. PostLoop. $5.09. Im going to send you here because I have a lot of information on this and it needed its own post. Bottom line: probably worth it and potentially $10/hour while you watch TV. I ended up receiving $5.09 from them very quickly again this month after cashing out, as in the same day, this month, and the amount was only this low because I was too busy working on other things. *IF YOU SIGNED UP UNDER ME USING MY REFERRAL LINK, THANK YOU! PLEASE DO THE 10 POSTS TO GET STARTED; YOU WILL GET POINTS FOR THOSE AND THEN A RATING, THEN YOU CAN CONTINUE ON. You must have excellent grammar and good conversational skills on this site!

8. LikeNation. THIS IS FREE! I have to push them again this month because Ive seen my followers increase, which is good for a lot of reasons; namely, the bigger my fan base, the more I can charge for social media stuff like on Fiverr and Sponsored Tweets. You know how you enter giveaways and have to like and follow countless people? Well, if you have your own sites that need a followin’,check this out. You like and follow and get “points” to do it. Then you can post what you want liked or followed and can use those points you earned. So you’re trading favors. Turns out you can make one shiny dollar for every 8,000 points you get. DO NOT DO THIS! If you like/follow/subscribe to just 30 people per day you get an 80-point daily bonus, which you turn into social media followers. If you sign up using my referral link, make sure you trade at least 70 favors ... I get 15 cents AND you get to see some of the benefit of the site.

9. SponsoredTweets. $19.92.

10. Babysitting. Yep, I earn money to babysit while I am also working (I work while all the kids sleep most of the time!). $240

Come back to see Julys numbers!

*Yes, I pay taxes on every stinking cent!
